What these notes are for
A board packet can be long and still miss the risk that matters. A strategy can be approved and still mean a different thing in every department. A new system can make the week faster and the institution harder to explain.
Those are the questions these notes are for. They come from advisory work with owners, boards, and the people who run the week, mostly in Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio. They are patterns, not case studies. No client is named, and no number is borrowed from a report we did not write.
If a sentence would not survive the person who has to make the decision and live with it afterward, it does not belong here either.
The same attention is in the work itself: governance, strategy, operations, and the systems that have to change with them. These notes are the longer version.
When a decision is close, write or call. Tell us the institution, the question, and when it has to be made.
